Out There is a highly rated space themed resource management and survival game by Mi Clos Studio. The game is currently available for Android and iOS for $3.99. A new expanded version of the game with reworked visuals entitled "Out There: Ω Edition" (see trailer below) is in the works and will be a free upgrade for the existing mobile versions and will also be available for Windows, Mac and Linux via Steam.

Update - Out There: Ω Edition:
Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/334420/
Humble Store: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p/outthere_omegaedition_storefront

Out There begins with a short cut scene that informs you that you are lost in space alone with nothing but your ship, limited resources and your wits. The game has been compared to FTL, largely because of the similarity of the galaxy map and the game's rogue-like nature, but the similarities stop there, as there is no combat or crew management in Out There. Instead the game focuses on survival utilizing your limited resources to deal with random emergent situations. You have fuel, oxygen, and iron (for repairs and upgrades) as your primary resources. The ship's equipment is also a sort of resource as they can be upgraded, crafted, or deconstructed for resources.

The game gives you little information to start with. You have a general idea of the direction you need to head. You travel from one star system to the next making your way towards home. With each jump resources are consumed and there is a chance a random encounter will occur. These random encounters can be positive, negative, or sometimes provide a choice that can result in either. As you arrive in each new system, you will be looking for a few different planet types from which to gather resources like fuel and iron so that your journey may continue. You can also encounter other types of objects like space stations, derelict ships, or inhabited worlds on which to land, drill for resources and possibly encounter life.

Out There plays out in quick sessions with lots of permadeath. The game is made to be played that way. It is quite difficult, and it is more or a matter of "how far can I get this time?" than it is "will I win this time?" (maybe this changes with more practice). There is much to explore and discover in Out There's universe. It has rightfully won many high reviews and award nominations and is one of those "one more round" type of games. It is a unique and creative mix of multiple genres and comes highly recommended from this gamer.

Assistance for new players and discussion about the game can be found at the Out There Official Forum, pretty nice looking theme they've get there... Smile

Here is a beta preview video of the aformentioned forthcoming "Out There: Ω Edition":
