The Manhattan Project
Title: The Manhattan Project
Developer: Domowicz Creative Group
Type: Digital Board Game
Platform(s): iOS / Android
# of Players: 1-5 Local & Online
Price: $6.99
The Manhattan Project is a digital adaptation of an original physical board game that was published in 2012 and was designed by Brandon Tibbets and Minion Games. The production of the original board game was funded by a Kickstarter campaign. A subsequent expansion for the original board game entitled "The Manhattan Project - Mega Expansion" was later also funded by a second Kickstarter campaign.
The Manhattan Project is a digital board game where competing players are in an arms race to be the first to develop and atomic bomb weapons program. The primary mechanic of the game is worker placement, involving a few different types of specialized worker tokens. Unlike most worker placement games, there are no rounds where workers are auto-retrieved, instead players retrieve assigned workers either when they want to or are forced to. This opens up potential for blocking of other players strategies and for optimizing your own efficiency. Multiple workers are assigned to multiple projects such associated with bomb making and espionage.
The art on the board, cards and pieces is very nice and styled around a 1940's world war 2 era period art deco style. The board is colorful and provides a variety of possible moves and tactical possibilities. The app version features single player versus ai, or both local and online multiplayer against any combination of human and ai opponents. The app version was originally released quite some time ago and received some negative reviews for lack of interface polish. The developers have since then been putting some work in addressing these issues and have recently released a new update that features some new improved user interface updates and bug fixes. The digital version currently lacks a tutorial but does include the game's rule book, and the game rules can be learned pretty easily from videos on YouTube including the one linked below.

From the back of the box:
The Manhattan Project makes you the leader of a great nation's atomic weapons program in a deadly race to build bigger and better bombs. You must assign your workers to multiple projects: building your bomb-making infrastructure, expanding your military to protect it, or sending your spies to steal your rival's hard work!
You alone control your nation's destiny. You choose when to send out your workers-and when to call them back. Careful management and superior strategy will determine the winner of this struggle. So take charge and secure your nation's future!"
